"Shiney appears to be very shattered and is repenting what he's done."
"He didn't even eat dinner on Monday night."
"He says he didn't realise the situation would be that serious, and that the victim would complain to the police."
EXCUSE ME???? Have we entered into a parallel universe? These statements coming from a police officer in custody of an accused rapist are just absurd and OUTRAGEOUS! Even if the said accused rapist is a Bollywood star. What do these statements mean? Are we supposed to feel SORRY for him now? And what about the victim??
Trust the Times of India to publish such articles with the who's who in Bollywood "vouching" for his character and saying they are certain "he will get justice". Well there better be justice. Medical tests have now confirmed that he did force himself on his maid and sexually assault her. There are enough statements, enough evidence to prove he did it. As if to balance out on its 'Shiney Shining' article series, one of the Times bloggers goes on an angry tirade about how different Shiney's case is from that of rape victims in Haryana and other places. How those victims had to kill themselves without getting justice, but just because Shiney is a celebrity, he was arrested immediately!

With all due respects to the blogger, I must say that although I do agree with his sentiments, he is slightly off the mark. I think that precisely BECAUSE Shiney is a celebrity, it is commendable that he has been arrested at all. And even despite the mounting evidence, there is a sympathy campaign raging on. I simply fail to understand out Indian tendency towards sycophancy, hero-worship, and the absolute fascination for money, fame or fair skin, that just seems to cloud our reasoning or common sense!!! The case of Shiney Ahuja will once again test our country's judicial system. It will show what really counts in our country: justice or just plain fame.
